Tall, Very Dark Blue

1991
Leapman, Edwina
Edwina Leapman's paintings throughout her twenty-five year career have been primarily about close tonalities and vibrating light. The earlier white paintings were more unequivocal in their clarity. Then came a period of very darkly luminous work, and from these have evolved naturally paintings of a different colour-space continuum, such as 'Tall, Very Dark Blue', 1991. Leapman's use of colour is emotional and intuitive. It is to do with space and the vastness of space; with the limited space of the picture and the endless space beyond its edge.
