Untitled

2005
Lai, Phillip
Diverse and wide-ranging, Phillip Lai's practice defies straightforward categorisation. 'Untitled' is a short film, just over a minute in length. It was shot on Super-8 and features a municipal park where the grass has been scorched dry after a long summer. The artist assumes the role of a vagrant, and the film provides a flickering observation of the vagrant's dirty hands fidgeting repeatedly. Lai perceives 'Untitled' not so much as a performance but more an exploration of a 'meandering or continuously immediate movement'.
