Untitled (from 'A.O.N.B' series)

1984
Arnatt, Keith
This series explores what Arnatt called the ‘conjunction of beauty and banality’. As the title of the series, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, suggests, the photographs were taken around England in areas specially designated for their striking landscapes. ‘Arnatt draws attention to the overlooked. He seems to question the disasters that surround us, and how they affect nature. His use of a monochrome palette creates a dark, mysterious, and almost gothic impression. The foreground of the photographs are strong and vivid whereas the background is dramatic and mysterious.’ Vanessa Lim and Katherine Shiafkov
