1998 - Here to Stay: Purchases of the 1990s

Here to stay: Arts Council Collection purchases of the 1990s enters the realm of domesticity, where everyday objects provide a catalyst for works of art evoking a range of responses, from feelings of security and warmth to more forbidding recollections and emotions.

Recasting traditional forms of architecture and interior design, many of the sculptures and photographs featured in this book combine sophisticated contemporary art practice with a deliberately modest handicraft. Here to stay provides a stimulating exploration of an area in contemporary sculpture and photography which is of concern to many of the most interesting artists working in Britain today, including Claire Barclay, Christine Borland, Angela Bulloch, Tracey Emin, Anya Gallaccio, Laura Godfrey-Isaacs, Siobhan Hapaska, Permindar Kaur, Mariele Neudecker, Avis Newman, Kathy Prendergast, Jane Simpson, Rachel Whiteread and Richard Woods.
