Once Upon a Time: Artists and Storytelling

Curated by students from the Courtauld Institutes MA Curating course, the exhibition examined the use of visual images to tell stories and act as a narrative.   Drawing on the Courtauld’s 19th century collection, the exhibition used the storybook illustrations of artists such as Walter Crane and George Cruikshank. A slightly darker element was introduced with the works of Arthur Boyd Houghton and our own prints from  Paula Rego’s Nursery Rhymes.
 
The second part of the show, called Personal Mythologies, concentrated on artists such as Tracey Emin and Gillian Wearing who manipulate pe
