Grand Designs: Sculpture and the Geometry of Architectural Space
Wakefield Art Gallery
9 February - 13 April 2008
Following the success of the Changing Rooms Select exhibition of 2003, Wakefield Art Gallery focused its second Select collaboration on the theme of sculpture and architecture.
The exhibition examined how architecture influences the generation of sculptural form and included twenty-one works from the Arts Council Collection by artists including Anthony Hill, Victor Pasmore, Mary Martin, Anya Gallaccio, Janice Kerbel and Rachel Whiteread.
Works from Wakefield’s own collection were also included. Grand Designs forms part of an ongoing programme linking themes around artists’ responses to design and architecture. This is in recognition of Wakefield Art Gallery’s imminent move to The Hepworth Wakefield – a new £26 million waterfront gallery designed by David Chipperfield.
