Select: Nature as Workshop
Turner Contemporary Project Space and Droit House Margate
28 February - 1 June 2008
Drawing entirely from the Collection, the exhibition featured work in a range of media including sculpture, photography, sound and installation. Artists have always responded to nature but this exhibition also looked at the use of recycled materials in contemporary art, in varying forms.
Turner Contemporary's aim was to present imaginative contemporary work as part of their audience development in the build up to the opening of the new gallery in 2011.
Amongst the artists included were Mike Nelson, Kathy Prendergast, David Batchelor, Richard Long, Jem Southam, and Keith Arnatt. Their works shared a common concern with mankind’s relationship with the environment, whether natural or man-made, and the things people collect or attempt to construct.
