Select: Unit 5
Ryedale Folk Museum
5 July - 17 August 2008
Curated by Students from Malton School North Yorkshire, Unit 5 reflected the issues and concerns of a group of young people living in North Yorkshire. The exhibition featured a surprising and challenging selection of works by both established and emerging artists. The selection, which included references to sex, smoking, drugs, tattoos and pizza delivery vans, made for a provocative exhibition, one that raised issues more commonly linked to a large city than a rural beauty spot. The selection of work from the Arts Council Collection highlighted the visual sophistication of the students and challenged common preconceptions about the interest and concerns of young adults.
