The World We Live In

Turnpike Gallery, Leigh
10 September - 5 November 2011
Specially selected from the Arts Council Collection, this exhibition celebrates 40 years of the Turnpike Gallery.  Paintings, sculpture, photography and video by 24 artists have been brought together because they tell us something about living in a place like Leigh: from images of urban architecture and industrial landscape, to the imaginative humour within every day life.
The exhibition includes post-war and contemporary works by some leading British artists, several of whom have shown previously at the Turnpike, inlcuding: LS Lowry, Frank Auerbach, William Scott, Carel Weight and Rachel Whiteread.
