Adam Khan Architects Win Riba National Award 2014 for Enclosure For Roger Hiorns’ Seizure, 2008/2013

01 August 2015

In June 2014 Adam Khan Architects were the recipients of a 2014 RIBA National Award for their sensitive and unique design of the concrete structure housing Roger Hiorns’ Seizure 2008/2013.

RIBA described how the enclosure ‘is an integral part of the re-framing of this celebrated artwork in a new context, exploring issues of the sublime, the picturesque and the failure of utopian housing projects. The reading of this modest building is complex and contradictory simultaneously recalling ancient Neolithic tombs and workaday farm buildings; it’s a beguiling combination of precious ark and utility bunker, the perfect concrete setting for this precious gemstone.’

Jill Constantine, Acting Head of Arts Council Collection, said, ‘We are delighted that Adam Khan Architects have been awarded a 2014 RIBA National Award for their enclosure for Roger Hiorns’ Seizure and congratulate them on this wonderful achievement. The Arts Council Collection, managed by Southbank Centre, celebrated a ten-year relationship with Yorkshire Sculpture Park when Seizure was installed there in 2013. This award is another way to mark the great undertaking by artist and architect to move this work from London to Yorkshire; from city to parkland, and celebrates the special structure which has been created by Adam Khan Architects for Seizure in this new phase of its existence.’

Seizure is open to the public on weekends and school holidays. Please visit the Yorkshire Sculpture Park www.ysp.co.uk for further information and to plan your visit.
