Arts Council Collection Curators Day

30 August 2014

MASTERCLASS ON MOORE

25 SEPTEMBER 2014, HAREWOOD HOUSE, LEEDS

The touring exhibition, Henry Moore in the Arts Council Collection, brings together our entire holdings of Moore’s sculpture and work on paper. Moore is an important figure for the Arts Council Collection: he was a key advisor to the acquisitions committee during the early 1950s and representation of his work within the Collection is also very strong.  Harewood House, a stunning eighteenth century stately home near Leeds with outstanding collections and grounds, is the final venue for this popular show. The exhibition will coincide with an outdoor presentation of Large Reclining Figure 1984, on loan from the Henry Moore Foundation.

We are delighted for this opportunity to present this ‘Masterclass on Moore’ with colleagues from Harewood House, independent scholars and experts. Following a firsthand account of the innovative programme of modern contemporary art exhibitions at Harewood House, the day offers a fantastic moment to assess Moore’s work presented both indoors and outdoors and to consider the relevance of his work to a younger generation of artists. There will also be a practical element to the day with Lyndsey Morgan, sculpture conservator, advising on the care and conservation modern British sculpture.
