Acquisitions

The Arts Council Collection supports and promotes British art and artists by acquiring works at early or critical stages in artists' careers. With a focus on innovative work made by artists living in Britain, our acquisitions policy is characterised by a spirit of risk taking combined with an informed appraisal of current practices.

Recommendations to acquire works are made by a changing group of external advisors to the Arts Council Collection Acquisitions Committee. The Committee researches artists and makes recommendations from within and beyond established gallery networks and are responsible for including the most innovative and progressive works, ensuring a broad range of artists are considered each year.
