Store to Tour: Third film now online

25 October 2018

The latest film in the Arts Council Collection’s Store to Tour series is now online.

The film focuses on Towner Art Gallery’s National Partners exhibition, At Altitude, which takes inspiration from the historical impact and the enduring appeal of the Sussex landscape and its aerial potential.

Featuring local para-glider Steve Purdle, who reflects on his own unique relationship with the Sussex landscape and its aerial beauty, the film also includes contributions from exhibition curator Brian Cass and artist Mishka Henner, whose Dutch Landscape series are a key work in the exhibition.

“The historical impact and the continuing appeal of the local landscape and its aerial potential was a huge inspirational factor in creating the exhibition.”

Brian Cass, Head of Exhibitions, Towner Art Gallery

About At Altitude

At Altitude explores how our experience of landscape, time and space has altered through the introduction of new elevated perspectives on the world that were unknown to earlier generations.

Ranging from early aviation to drone surveillance the exhibition will chart these changing perspectives, illustrating how perception has shifted from when aerial images were rare and exhilarating, to the all-enveloping, but strangely flattening vantage point of Google Earth and satellite technologies that grant access to places and information one is not usually afforded.

At Altitude presents historical and contemporary works that elucidate the links between the ever-changing methods of observing the world and how this has been interpreted by artists through painting, sculpture, photography and film.

Artists include Mishka Henner, Jananne Al-Ani, Tacita Dean, Wolfgang Tillmans, Cornelia Parker and more.
