Amongst Drifting Tides - Verse and Refrain

1980
Rose, Colin J.
'Among Drifting Tides – Verse and Refrain' comes from Colin Rose's Estuary series of paintings, inspired by his love of the area around Milnthorpe on the Cumbrian coast. These paintings, however, are not landscapes in any accepted sense. He views them as a crystallisation of elements of experiences and thoughts, as well as conveying a wonder at the beauty of the area. The surface of the painting teems with complex overlapping imagery, which Rose has created using all sorts of picturemaking techniques. The incongruous images are layered and jutted up to one another to create a dreamlike state. Ann Jones
