Colin #2

1999
Lloyd, Hilary
'Colin #2' is from a series created by the artist specifically for a solo exhibition. The work is a film of a man slowly taking off and putting on his top. Every muscle is concentrated on this action, and the tantalising slowness of his movements is captivating, drawing in the viewer's attention. To add to this relationship, the work is presented on back-to-back screens; one with his shirt coming off and the other with him putting it back on. The title implies that the work is a portrait, but Lloyd's subjects are unknown to her, she approaches them on the street or in dance clubs. The resulting works are intimate snapshots of a stranger's everyday life. Annabel Potter
