Oving Footpath

Millichip, Paul
Paul Millichip was born in Harrow in 1929. He attended Leeds College of Art and Brighton College of Art in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Millichip found recognition early, gaining his first one person show at Gallery One in London in 1954. He moved into teaching later in his career, and continues to live and work in Winslow in Buckinghamshire. 'Oving Path' is one in a series of works by Millichip that records aspects of the North Buckinghamshire countryside. It reflects his continuing concern for the dynamics of pictorial space: 'I see the space surrounding the figures and objects in my work as being in perpetual motion, exerting pressure and creating tension across and within the entire picture plane.'
