2001 - Spotlight on Kenneth Martin

Kenneth Martin (1905-1984), was one of the most influential abstract artists of his generation. Having started his career as a painter, he made his first mobiles in 1951 and for the next two decades worked mainly as a sculptor. Both his paintings and sculptures were constructed or built from simple elements. Spotlight on Kenneth Martin brought together 25 paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings, from the 1940s to the early 1980s. Drawn from the Arts Council Collection, these works formed a  Touring Exhibition from the Hayward Gallery.
