One Day, Something Happens: Paintings of People

Jennifer Higgie, the renowned writer and critic, presents a highly personal selection of figurative paintings from the Arts Council Collection, one of the world’s largest collections of modern and contemporary British art. Through these works, Higgie teases out common themes, from joy and loneliness to storytelling and theatricality, exploring the limits of painting and figurative representation.

One Day, Something Happens presents a personal journey through contemporary figurative art, and includes an illuminating essay by Higgie, alongside interviews in which she discusses the practice of figurative paintings with five of the featured artists.
