Update on gallery closures

18 March 2020

Following the latest advice from the Government, many of our partner galleries have had to make the difficult decision to close their venues for the time being.

The health and wellbeing of their staff, artists and visitors is of course the most important thing at this time, however we understand the impact that closing will have, both financially and mentally.

We want to do everything we can to support the sector as we all deal with this unprecedented situation. We will continue to share the amazing work of our venues and artists online, as well as delving into the ACC archives to share content that will hopefully provide welcome artistic stimulation during these difficult times.

We don't know yet when our partner galleries and venues will reopen, but we will update you as soon as we do. For now, here are some updates on the ACC programme:

  • ACC Touring Exhibition The Printed Line is currently installed at The Beaney in Canterbury, the venue is now closed until further notice.
  • ACC Touring Exhibition Breaking the Mould: Women in Sculpture since 1945 at Longside Gallery, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, opening date is now TBC. More updates to follow.
  • *National Partners Programme exhibitions at Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange in Cornwall remain open for the moment, however they have cancelled all upcoming events. Firstsite in Essex have also had to cancel upcoming events and the opening of their next NPP exhibition. Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens will be closed from tonight until further notice. We will continue to share our partner’s digital content online in the coming weeks.

*As of the evening of the 18 March, Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange in Cornwall and Firstsite in Essex also temporarily closed their exhibition spaces.

Our thoughts are with everyone who is being affected by this situation and we pass on our best wishes to all of you and your loved ones. We hope you’ll be able to visit some of these galleries again very soon.

Stay safe and, for now, see you online.
