The Long Walk Home (Xala)

2020
Armitage, Michael
Michael Armitage’s colourful, ethereal works play with visual narratives and challenge cultural assumptions, referencing politics, history and civil unrest. In The Long Walk Home (Xala), 2020, two monkeys are depicted in luminous inks, looking on through the foliage as a figure helps another across a stretch of water. The scene references the Senegalese film Xala (1975).
